Mr. Dang Viet Anh is a Vietnamese qualified lawyer having extensive experience in handling cases in a variety of sectors such as commercial disputes, insurance, re-insurance, marine and international trade.

Mr. Dang has been practising in both wet and dry shipping. He is well known for Admiralty work, from collisions and other marine incidents, salvage and wreck removal, total loss and GA claims, groundings, arrest and release of ship to all other general shipping disputes. He is very often recommended and/or appointed by leading P&I Clubs and H&M underwriters and to assist Club/underwriter’s members in various shipping issues.

He has also handled all kinds of ship finance, namely ship building, sale & purchase, management agreement as well as charterparty, bill of lading and disputes arising therefrom. He has frequently represented sellers, buyers as well as their banks, mortgagees in S&P deals and sources have praised his diligence and describe him as “‘quick, efficient and proactive’” - THE LEGAL 500 - 2017.

Notable cases

· Assisted a foreign shipowner, P&I Club and the hull underwriters to negotiate and settle a claim of several million USD after the ship collided into a seaport in the South of Vietnam, advised the ship interests on the term of the settlement agreement and payment term with the aim at preventing any counter-actions from the seaport owner/operator. Successful to release the ship from the arrest order issued by competent courts of Vietnam;

· Assisted a foreign shipowner & P&I Club to release a ship in the middle of Vietnam after the ship contacted with a shore crane of the port;

· Assisted a shipowner & P&I Club to release a ship arrested under in rem action of a foreign cargo insurer;

· Assisted buyers to terminate a Shipbuilding Agreement of 5 new ships due to the late delivery of a local shipyard in the North of Vietnam;

· Assisted buyers and buyers’ banks in various S&P and Shipbuilding deals with Vinashin and its subsidiaries around Vietnam;

· Assisted shipyards and builders’ bank to negotiate with local and foreign buyers;

· Assisted US buyer to acquire a floating dock in Nha Trang from a local seller;

· Assisted an US investors to negotiate with local investors on a joint venture agreements to build and operate a fleet of luxury river cruises for operation in Mekong Delta River between Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar;

· Assisted some Shipping Companies to restructure their fleets and negotiate with local banks to restructure their loan;

· Acted as the barrister to protect various shipowners before the local courts and arbitral tribunals against the local claimants and respondents on shipping and commercial disputes.
