Dzungsrt & Associates was honored to participate in the 23rd International Congress of Maritime Arbitrators (ICMA), held from 22 to 27 March 2026 at Shangri-La (Singapore). Recognized as one of the most prestigious events in the fields of maritime law and international arbitration, ICMA is convened every three years and brings together leading lawyers, arbitrators, and maritime experts from around the world. Beyond serving as a platform for updating the latest developments in arbitration and dispute resolution, the Congress also addresses pressing contemporary issues such as energy transition, the digitalization of maritime transport, and the impacts of global geopolitical shifts. At the same time, it provides an important forum for networking, knowledge exchange, and the promotion of fair and effective standards in maritime dispute resolution on a global scale.
Within the framework of the Congress, Mr. Nguyen Manh Tuan, Associate of Dzungsrt & Associates LLC, delivered a presentation at Concurrent Session 16: “Bill of Lading and Carriage Issues”, titled “Ambiguities in the Enforceability of Agreements on Carrier’s Liability Limitation under Vietnamese Law.” The presentation focused on analyzing Vietnam’s current legal framework governing the limitation of liability of carriers, while highlighting notable divergences between Vietnamese law, Hague-Visby Rules and the Hamburg Rules. In particular, it underscored existing “grey areas” in Vietnamese judicial practice concerning the enforceability of agreements on limitation of liability, thereby offering practical insights that attracted significant interest and active discussion among international participants.
